If you want to, you'd need to install MacFUSE and ntfs-3g. You can read it just fine from OS X but you can't write to it. Same as with a Bootcamp windows partition. Once you have those two things installed and you plug in that drive, not only will you be able to read that drive but you'll be able to write to it as well. If you wanted to read and write to that drive you'd need to only install MacFuse and NTFS-3g. If you have an NTFS usb key or usb drive or firewire drive (unlikely) and you want to be able to plug it in and read it, you don't need anything. I had to rewrite my entire post because its late and I'm tired. Some way besides disabling icon preview system wide.ĭoes that mean in order to use Macfusion to mount NTFS drive you need to install MacFuse and ntfs-3g first?Īrgh. I wish there was some way to speed up sshfs mounts in leopard. So if you can ssh to your windows machine, it'll mount the drive like a local sshfs mount even though the drive itself is formatted ntfs. Plugins allow it to do the same with a plethora of other things like encfs. It mounts sshfs, and ftpfs mounts and integrates them into finder like mounted drives. I guess I'm having trouble grasping what MacFusion is for then (and I'm not really getting it from reading the site either). I was just asking if this could be used as part of/instead of those two. You don't need MacFusion for that, you just need MacFUSE and ntfs-3g Possibly a dumb question, but can this be used as part of a setup to enable read/write access to NTFS drives on a Mac (whether an internal NTFS partition or a USB/FW NTFS drive)? If so, how would one go about doing that? "Connect to server" dialog in the main UI. Mount SSH or FTP, read/write, on your mac Plugin-based user interface to MacFuse filesystems

Please do not post this beta on macupdate, iUseThis, etc, as Macfusion2 is not yet ready for full public release.

Please also post all specific bugs/requests on this site.

You can download the latest beta on the Trac Site. It is currently at Beta 3 and should be very useable. I am posting today to ask for your help in beta testing this new version. After a long while, I've rewritten Macfusion from scratch to make it more useable, more flexible, and generally better. But it doesn't officially support Windows in any capacity-on Apple Silicon Macs, it supports macOS and Linux VMs.About a year ago, I released the first first of Macfusion, my GUI for MacFuse, here on the Mac Ach.

In recent macOS versions, Apple has been building its own virtualization framework, and independent developers have used it to create lightweight, free virtualization software without the cost or complexity of Parallels or VMware.

This is a bit more flexibility than Mac developers have-if a Mac app has any x86-only dependencies or plugins that needs to be run within the host process, the whole app needs to be started in x86 mode, even if the rest of the app is Apple Silicon-native. Windows includes its own Rosetta-like x86-to-Arm translation, and Windows 11 improved it by allowing it to run 64-bit x86 apps and by letting developers ship apps that use a mix of Arm and x86 code. Running the Arm version of Windows will let you run most non-3D Windows apps, regardless of whether they were written to run on Arm or x86 processors. VMware provides some basic documentation for testers hoping to kick the tires of this new build, but it's worth noting that Parallels can at least offer to download Windows for you automatically.

VMware also includes a basic 2D graphics driver so that the Windows desktop can be rendered properly on high-resolution displays, plus a basic networking driver. To meet Windows 11's TPM requirement, the software creates an encrypted file that is used to store the same kinds of data that an actual TPM would store on a real PC. VMware's blog post details some of the changes they've made to support Windows 11, many of which parallel the work that Parallels has done. Parallels Desktop 17 will run the Arm version of Windows 11 inside a virtual machine, and yesterday VMware released a beta version of VMware Fusion 12 that can do the same thing. But the ability to run Windows and Windows apps, either directly on the hardware via Boot Camp or via a virtual machine, still isn't officially supported.īut makers of paid virtualization software have been working to close that gap. The transition from Intel to Apple Silicon Macs has gone smoothly for most software, thanks to the Rosetta 2 compatibility software and app developers who have quickly added Apple Silicon support to their software.
